1 Death- a bird
Death is but nature's law,
It is like a bird with powerful claws.
It can come in the night or day,
To carry a living soul away.
Coming anytime,anywhere,
Taking a living being away,unawares
Be it a human being or a beautiful flower,
Or a bird ,animal, the sun or stars,
All will cease to live one day,
As they are carried away,
By death,as its prey.
Like an eagle lurks around,
Looking for its prey,on the ground,
Death lurks around stealthily,
Looking for a prey,hopefully.
Once it catches its prey in sight,
He swoops on it,holding it tight.
And then takes it away,
To heaven or hell, where it shall stay.
He visited our house one day,
And took grandma away,
To the kingdom of the divine,
Meant for the pure and the benign,
And freed her from all suffering and pain,
On a night of storm and heavy rain.
Leaving all nears and dears,
Immersed in sorrow,shedding tears.
2 A True Angel
You were like a bright spark
For those whose lives were gloomy and dark
You devoted your life to love and care
To those who were in great despair
You were a soul so loving so kind
Always with a very peaceful mind
A person kinder than you none can find
But now you have left us all behind
So many destitutes she served
Giving them all they deserve
Their needs she did understand
And lend them a sincere helping hand
Such a simple life she led
Today in her memory tears we shed
The memory of an angel who served humanity
As willingly as can be
So many honors she has won
For the free willing service she has done
Oh lord we pray to thee
May her soul rest peacefully.
3 Supreme Sacrifice
Under the sun that makes days bright
Under the stars that stud the night
Away from mothers daughters and wives
So many sacrifice precious lives.
All for the sake of their mother country
As dear to them as can be.
Fighting, fighting day and night
Not withstanding their terrible plight
On days too hot or nights too cold
They fight courageous and bold.
To be victorious some day
In driving all intruders away.
As each brave soldier dies
He makes a supreme sacrifice.
We at home sit and pray
For our dear ones to come back one day.
All our prayers are in vein
When they die after suffering and pain.
Oh god almighty we pray to thee
May the noble souls rest peacefully.
4 Peacock Dance
As rain clouds loom over the sky,
The forest resounds with a loud cry-
The majestic peacock says with joy,
It is time to rejoice.
Ready to welcome the lovely monsoon,
Which is truly Nature's boon.
With a little crown on his head,
He dances with his tail spread.
As the rain drops fall on the ground,
The beautiful bird turns around.
In the rain as it does rejoice,
The jungle resounds with its happy voice.
As all other animals run away,
To shelter themselves on a rainy day,
The peacock dances happy and gay.
5 THE MOON AND THE NIGHT
The sun bids goodbye ,
Setting in the beautiful evening sky.
Ending yet another day,
The night is on her way,
Decked by stars beautiful ‘n’ bright.
The moon peeps out of the sky,
Awaiting his love, the beautiful night.
The moon stays with his sweetheart
Until its time for them to depart
And to give way,
To the rising sun that heralds the new day.
6 Motherhood
Sweet tastes honey from a honeycomb,
Sweet sounds the news of someone growing in your womb
You know not whether it is a girl or a boy
But the little one is sure a bundle of joy
Growing every minute,growing every day,
To be born someday
As you wake up every morn,
You think of the new one,yet to be born
Nurturing the little one with loveand care,
You feel him in your stomach, and know he is there
Counting month after month, day after day,
Waiting to see the little one's face
Motherhood is a time filled with ecstasy
All the best,mother-to-be!
7 Goodbye, daughter dear.
A mother was filled with joy ‘n’ pride,
Seeing her daughter as a bride.
Attired in silk,adorned with jewellery,
She walked slowly,gracefully,
And sat beside her handsome groom.
The jasmine garlands on her hair,
Spread their perfume
And filled the air.
Her wide forehead,
Was adorned by a bindi,bright ‘n’ red.
Throughout the wedding ceremony,
There was a blend of sorrow ‘n’ecstasy,
In the mother’s and daughter’s hearts,
For, they knew, they’ll have to depart..
They looked each other eye to eye,
And soon, started to cry..
Parting after so many years,
Their eyes were filled with tears.
As mother gave a big hug,
The daughter felt cosy and snug.
Her heart was filled with bliss,
As mother gave a parting kiss,
And blessed her for a new life,
She would lead as a man’s wife,
And with her husband ,sent her away,
Hoping for her visit,someday .
Waving her hand,she bid adieu,
Until her daughter was out of view.
8. The spring
Oh! Spring,Spring,Spring
Of all the seasons you are the king,
All the beautiful flowers you bring,
Little girls sit and string.
Trees bear fruits, sweet and sour,
And butterflies fly from flower to flower,
All nature looks happy and gay,
With children at play.
Early morning dewdrops fall,
On all flowers, big and small,
All the birds on the branches sing,
To hear, its really a pleasant thing.
All grass looks bright green,
With beautiful flowers inbetween,
Pink,white yellow mauve,and red,
It looks like a real flower bed!
Oh!spring,spring spring,
Of all seasons you are the king,
Making the day happy and bright,
With the sun shining with all his might!
9 My pussy
I have a pussy who loves milk,
Whose fur is as soft as silk,
It is truly a pleasure,
To stroke her white fur.
She is so cute and fat,
And sleeps on an old mat.
She has eyes green as marbles,
And is indeed very lovable.
10 The Candle
On a gloomy night,
With no electric or street light,
The emergency lamp neede repair,
And we sat in despair
The torch couldn't lend the faintest glow,
Its battery was only fit to throw.
The search for a new battery proved futile ,
The situation was strange and hopeless for a while
Then,someone slender and white,
Was lit for some light.
Her smooth body melted away,
And though the wind made her sway,
She fought to stay,
Until at last,she melted away.
Thus,she died,leaving behind,
Wax remains as a memorial to remind,
That someone had put herself at stake
Purely for the sake
Of those sitting in the dark
So that they get a little spark,
A small glow,alittle light,
To brighten their dark night.
11 On your wedding day
As you both perform the marital rites,
And decide to unite,
To begin a new phase in life,
Together,as husband and wife.
Today’s indeed a special day,
That’ll be looked upon in a special way.
Together as you begin to stay,
Wholeheartedly we all pray,
That may blessings from heaven above,
Fill your life with everlasting love.,
As you both sit side by side
As handsome groom and beautiful bride,
Looking so adorable,
You’re truly a perfect couple.
Best wishes to both of you,
Dear Sreeja and Biju .
12 The Hogenekkal falls
Cascading down the rocky terrain,
Flowing joyously after the rain,
The hogenekkal falls are a wonderful sight,
That filled my heart with wonder and delight.
Flowing from mountains,high and rocky,
Down they rushed ferociously,
To meet each other down below,
And then like a river did they flow.
From different angles I did see ,
The Hogenekkal falls in all their glory.
13 Nostalgia
Lingering in my mind even now,
Is the nostalgia of sweet moments
We spent together.
Filling the room with talk and laughter.
Moments of joy just flew away,
And then, it was the end of the day,
When we all had to depart.
There was sadness in my heart
As you all prepared to go away,
Memories of joyous moments we spent today,
Swept quickly into my mind
And I silently sighed,
For,together forever we cannot stay
We all have to go our own way.
Tomorrow we start a new day,
Though today we have to depart,
Hope shall always fill our hearts,
That we shall meet again another day,
And enjoy as we did today.
14 The Curious Chick
The cute chick spotted an egg,
And wondered what it was ,
And,kicking it with her tiny leg,
Sent it rolling across.
She followed it all the way,
Until it stopped, a little far away.
Then,she lowered her tiny neck,
And gave it a soft peck.
She gazed at it for sometime ,when,
Along came mother hen.
Seeing her child she lowered her head
And then she lovingly said,
I sat on an egg like this and made it warm
And that is how you were born.
15 Dennis the Menace
Have you seen a little boy
Bubbling forever with life and joy
Then meet little Dennis
Who always makes a menace.
With golden yellow hair and mischievious eyes
The naughty boy indeed, looks nice
Mr. Wilson, his neighbour, bald and fat,
Hates to even hear the name of the brat.
He has a big dog called ruff,
Of their pranks, others have had enough
What an imp is Dennis
Incredible are his tricks.
16 Black Beauty
Black beauty is a cute little foal,
Whose fur is as black as coal.
She walks with profound grace,
And has a beautiful face.
17 At the beach
Sitting on the beach,
Looking at the sea, stretching beyond reach,
Watching the waves play,
Enjoying the breeze that makes trees sway
I saw the waves rising high,
As if to touch the sky.
They seemed to invite me to play,
With them, all day.
To my heart's content I played
And watched the sunlight slowly fade.
The sun had begun to set,
Making the sky a beautiful red
I made castles of sand,
And collected shells in my hand.
18 My dear mother
My dear,dear mother,
Is a wife to my father
She has short hair and brown eyes
And looks very wise.
She is calm,cheerful and tall
And looked after me since I was small.
At night, to me,stories she read,
Until I closed my eyes on the bed.
She introduced me to my father, relatives, and all,
And told me what each I should call
She taught me about different angles,
And bought me a lot of lovely bangles
She taught me about many kings,
And gave me beautiful rings
Many of my favorite dishes she makes,
LIke, biscuits and cakes.
She is a good mother and wife,
I hope she leads a happy, long life.
19 Science
Once upon a time, science was fun,
With so many experiments to be done.
It was fun to know why sun and stars glow,
And what makes liquids flow.
Who discovered colors of the rainbow,
How the living things grow.
And what response to stimuli they show.
How a plant forms from a seed,
And how the different organisms feed.
There were so many nice diagrams to draw,
And objects to be made with wood and straw.
20 A robot
During my childhood days,
I saw a robot with a cute face.
She came in a serial on TV
Her name was vicky.
She was indeed very fair,
And had brown hair.
Which was tied behind in a bun,
Watching her was fun.
LIke a little girl ,she looked,
She helped a lady to clean and cook.
A lady who was supposedly her mother,
And loved her like her own daughter.
Seeing her, I felt very keen,
To have a robot, cute and sweet.
I would give her a nice name,
And love her all the same.
Big sofas and chairs she would lift,
She'd truly be a wonderful gift.
In the evening she would come,
To help me with my homework sums.
After that,we would play,
And have a wonderful day.
My broken toys she'd mend
And be a really wonderful friend.
21 My uncle's farm
My uncle has a beautiful farm,
Where everything is so nice and calm,
Ther e are horses cows, ducks and hens
And pigs who live in pens.
It has a big shallow well,
Where many beautiful fish dwell.
All around flowers bloom,
And drive away all one's gloom.
There are cute birds and nice flowers,
And trees as tall as towers .
Where the little birds stay,
In nests made of straw and hay .
In this beautiful place I stayed
And watched the farm, uncle had made.
WAtching how the birds walked,
And how they talked.
Most of my holidays in your garden I spent,
Not knowing how fast time went,
To see your farm, I eagerly wait,
Oh! uncle,you're really great.
22 My dearest coconut tree
Oh! my dear coconut tree,
You give us so many coconuts for free,
Coconuts that are juicy and round,
And fall with a loud sound.
Sometimes it is a great pleasure,
To drink the sweet coconut water,
Or scoop out tender parts,
And eat to the content of one's heart.
You are so tall and strong,
I hope you live happily for long.
23 A festival I love
Deepavali, the festival of lights,
Makes a dark night,
So beautiful and bright
A time when Goddess Lakshmi
Is worshipped for peace and prosperity.
Diyas and candles are lit in a row
Fireworks burst with a glow,
It is time to meet and greet,
Loved ones with wishes and sweets
Throughout the night, diyas and candles burn,
To celebrate the joyous return
Of Lord Rama from exile,
That made everyone smile.
24 My Dream
Once I dreamt of a mermaid in the sea,
Who was as beautiful as can be.
She had long golden hair ,
And looked very fair,
With red lips and blue eyes,
She looked very nice.
She was very beautiful and slim,
And had a lovely tail to swim.
She took me to the world of the sea,
As beautiful as can be.
She told me,six sisters she had,
And that life in her world was never sad.
She showed me her sisters, and father, the sea king,
Sitting on a shell throne,wearing a ring.
I opened my eyes suddenly,
Into the world of reality,
Realising it was just a dream,a fantasy,
To be cherished fondly
25 Flowers
Flowers,the wonders of nature bloom
And drive away all our gloom.
Of all the flowers that can be seen,
Rose is always the queen.
She blooms in colours, beautiful and bright,
Pink,red orange yellow and white.
Some are big ,and some,small,
Jasmines smell good, poppies have no smell at all.
Dahlias bloom in the day,Night queens at night,
Suflower blooms,facing the sunlight.
Lotuses live in water, asters on land,
And cacti flowers,in the hot deaert sand
In the spring ,they are mostly found,
Spreading their scent all around.
Canna and lilly have leaves, green and long,
Champaks grow on trees, tough and strong.
At night many of the flowersclose,
For they too want to doze.
At night blooms jasmine white,
To see the stars shining bright.
So dear flowers,good night,
See you again when the sun shines bright
Beautiful Butterflies
So many beautiful butterflies!
Flying high up in the clear blue skies
With wings so colourful, delicate and so nice,
Attracting every child’s eyes.
In different places,on different landscapes
Live butterflies with varying wing shapes
In the spring season they are abundantly found
Sipping nectar from flowers around.
How I once wished ,like you, butterflies,
I could fly high ,high up in the skies..
THE 14TH OF NOVEMBER
The 14th of november
Is a day children remember
For, on this day,
Falls their beloved chacha Nehru's birthday.
Who loved children very much, they say,
And thus this day is childrens' day.
In the memory of a leader ,
Who fought day and night.
To free India from the terrible plight
Under the british colonisers
Truly a leader of great fame,
He loved children all the same.
Today, children are happy and gay,
On chacha Nehru's birthday,
To get one day of freedom from school,
Which,for them, is wonderful.
THE SEA
Great sea, deep sea,
Vast as can be,
Inside you live many creatures,
With so many amazing features.
Winds blowing over you bring us rain
Resulting in abundance of grain.
Of cliffs and beaches there is formation,
As a result of your waters' erosion.
So many people come to explore
You, to know more and more.
An evening at your shore has a lovely sight,
Of the setting sun shining bright.
STARS
Yesterday, I saw a little star,
Shining in the sky,so very far,
On a clear dark night,
Stars light up the sky, shining bright.
At night, when all on earth are asleep,
Out of the clouds,stars peep.
When the sun rises, glowing bright,
All the stars are out of sight.
A Ballad
A man, old and grey,
Was on his way
Going helter skelter
Looking for shelter
He visited a lady old and fat,
Asked for food and shelter, she denied him that.
In the next house he did find ,
A lady young beautiful and kind.
To him, food and shelter she gave,
In a loving manner did she behave.
Before leaving he gave her a boon ,
With which she grew rich very soon.
Her neighbour growing rich the old lady saw,
And opened her mouth in awe.
She invited the old man home before noon,
And treated him kindly, hoping for a boon.
Two three days in her house he spent,
And was asked for a boon before he went.
As the man gave her a boon,
She was thrilled about being rich, soon
''Whatever in the morning you begin to do,
Until evening it'll continue.''
The old woman ran into her house,
As quickly as a little mouse.
Opening her money box,she started to sneeze,
Until evening it did not cease.
She learnt a lesson ,valuable as can be,
You lose what you have,on being greedy.
'I' quench my thirst
I am mother earth,
Where all forms of life take birth.
My face was wrinkled ,my throat dry,
I felt I would begin to cry
The sun was high up in the skies,
Glaring at me with fierce eyes.
I asked the lord for a boon-
The urgent arrival of monson.
Suddenly the sky became very dark,
As if it were the mouth of a shark.
Lightning I saw,thunder I heard,
But did not find a single bird.
I saw everyone go helter skelter,
To their houses for shelter.
My prayers were answered by thee,
I was as grateful as can be.
The cute puppy
As mother and I waited hand in hand,
For our bus at the bus stand,
A Shrill,sad noise was heard,
More or less like that of a bird.
We lookedaround to see a pup,
Sit in a basket and look up.
With a sad face and hopeful eyes,
The animal looked very nice.
We guessed it belonged to someone,
But came to know it was an abandoned little one.
We bought it home and cared for it well,
And soon with us it began to dwell.
I once wished...
Lingering in my mind even now,
Is the nostalgia of sweet moments
We spent together.
Filling the room with talk and laughter.
Moments of joy just flew away,
And then, it was the time of the day,
When we all had to depart.
There was sadness in my heart
As we prepared to go away,
Memories of joyous moments we spent today,
Which shall be treasured always
Swept quickly into my mind
Memories of times when we visited places
I hope these memories would never efface
I remembered the numerous ways
We helped each other, in difficult days
And I silently sighed,
For,together ,forever we cannot stay,
We all have to go our own way.
Tomorrow we start a new day,
Though today we have to depart,
Hope shall always fill our hearts,
That we shall meet again another day,
And enjoy as we did today.
